    HR Magazine looks at statistics published by Daycare Trust that show how increases in childcare costs are causing parents to exit the workforce:

    • As the Government cuts the childcare support available through Working Tax Credit from 80% to 70%, the number of families receiving help with childcare will go down by 44,000, and it will cost a over £500 a year extra for those that are still entitled to help.
    • As average childcare costs for many are now more than £100 per week for a part-time place, there are also worrying gaps in its availability.
    • Employers are encouraged to take an active role in helping working parents by offering flexible working and childcare voucher schemes, to help ease the current squeeze on income.
