Lack of women in the boardroom "completely unacceptable" says Gordon Brown
Gordon Brown has asked businesses to explain the lack of women in UK boardrooms, calling the absence "completely unacceptable". The result comes after research by the government equalities office found that 60 per cent of people think there are not enough female directors in big businesses. The government has said it could take up to 60 years for women to reach equal representation in the top 100 companies. This is despite 80 per cent of these companies thinking that a more balanced senior management would improve how they worked with customers and 61 per cent believing having less women in senior roles means missing out on top talent.
